September 17, 2006 was French Heritage Day at the Consul General’s residence, with French posterist Jean-Pierre Got

The French Consul General in San Francisco and Mrs Desagneaux have opened their Pacific Heights residence to visitors on the occasion of French Heritage Day, and have been host to renowned French poster artist Jean-Pierre Got.

Initiated by the French ministry of Culture in 1984, the Heritage Days are organized every year during the third week-end of September, along one or two main themes. This first major cultural event of the fall was attended by 11.5 million visitors last year, which shows the French people’s interest for the history of places and arts. The success of this event lies in the large patrimonial diversity available to visitors : masterpieces of both civil and religious architecture, parks and gardens, archeological sites, literary, industrial and military heritage as well. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to discover public edifices like the Elysée palace, the Senate, the National Assembly, the ministries, embassies abroad, as well as private buildings like castles, villas, and factories, which open their doors exceptionally and unveil previously unknown collections. Since 1991, the Heritage Days have grown to a European dimension, as 47 countries now organize a similar event.

Born in 1951 in Bergerac, Jean-Pierre Got, who now lives in Bordeaux, had been in the wine business for more than 20 years when he began his artistic career in 1992. He designs advertisement posters in the Belle Epoque, Art Nouveau or Art Deco fashion. Jean-Pierre has received numerous commissions from vintners and restaurateurs from various countries, and his works have captured some of the world’s best wine regions.
