The France-Stanford Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, founded at Stanford University in partnership with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to bridge the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, sciences, engineering, business and law, addressing historical and contemporary issues of significance for France and the U.S. from a broad range of perspectives.
Its programs bring faculty members, researchers and students from across Stanford’s departments and schools into contact with colleagues in France, to explore issues of common intellectual concern, to advance collaborative research, and to foster interdisciplinary inquiry.
The France-Stanford Center sponsors high quality research projects likely to foster new linkages and deepen existing connections between French scholars and students and their counterparts at Stanford University.
Priority will be given to projects with the potential to develop new collaborations involving junior researchers, and to those leading to collaborative work on interdisciplinary issues.
Projects must involve: • Visits • Exchanges • Internships • “Seed money” • Mini-conferences • Course development Projects must not involve: • Costs of book translation • Subsidies for book publication • Post-doctoral stipends or salaries • Tuition
The France-Stanford Center will not fund the following:

Applications must clearly state the aims, activities, and anticipated outcomes of the project (5 pages maximum).
• A non-technical statement (250 words maximum) of the project’s importance and significance. • A detailed budget, itemizing the costs of activities (1 page maximum). Other sources of actual or potential funding should also be indicated.
