Long stay visa for scientists, researchers and teachers

Applications cannot be processed more than 3 months ahead of time.

1. Do I need a visa ?

Yes except if you are a citizen of Switzerland, Andorra, Vatican, San Marino, Monaco or of the European Economic Area:

2. Processing time

Processing time may take about 1 month.

Note that if the institution/organization hosting you in France is not amongst the ones allowed to issue a "Protocole / Convention d’Accueil", you will be required to apply for a regular Work Visa

3. Requirements

Please provide us with the original + 1 copy of each document. The visa section does not make any copies, you must bring your documents and the required copies. You are also invited to sort your documents in the same order they are listed below in order to facilitate the work of the visa officer that will review your application.

1. Original passport valid for at least three months after your return to the US +1 photocopy of the 1st pages. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago, be valid for at least three months after your return to the US and have at least 2 blank visas pages left.

3. One application form ( English version) filled out completely and signed by the applicant.

4. 1 picture glued/stapled onto each application form + 1 picture left loose. All photographs must be recent, in color on a plain white background, of full front view, taken facing the camera. No side or angled view are acceptable. Chin to top of hair should measure about 1"

5. One residence form duly filled out (upper part only)

6. Original "Protocole / Convention d’accueil" (equivalent of a work contract) provided and stamped by your host in France and stamped by the Préfecture + 2 photocopies. If the institution/organization hosting you in France is not amongst the ones allowed to issue a "Protocole d’Accueil", you will be required to apply for a regular Work Visa.

7. If you are not a US citizen: residency card or valid visa to the United States, I-20, IAP66, advanced parole or any other pertinent documents from INS showing that you may reenter the U.S. +1 photocopy.

8. E-TICKET OR RESERVATION CONFIRMATION EMAIL SHOWING THE DATE OF DEPARTURE TO EUROPE

9. A self-addressed prepaid envelope with a tracking number from USPS OR FEDEX ONLY. You may use one envelope per family. You don’t have to provide an envelope if you prefer to pick up your passport when it is ready. For FedEx, you must choose the option “BILL RECIPIENT”, not “BILL SENDER”.
Please keep copy of your tracking number (as we are not going to do so), stick the mailing label on the envelope and fill out like this :

4. Requirements for spouses and children

1. Passport valid for at least three months after your return to the US. Make sure your passport has blank pages left to affix the visa + 1 copy

3. One application form (click here for the English version) filled out completely and signed by the applicant.

4. One picture glued/stapled onto each application form

5. Marriage Licence for the spouse + 1 copy / Birth Certificate for the Children + 1 copy

6. If you are not a US citizen: residency card or valid visa to the United States, I-20, IAP66, advanced parole or any other pertinent documents from INS showing that you may reenter the U.S. +1 photocopy.

7. E-TICKET OR RESERVATION CONFIRMATION EMAIL SHOWING THE DATE OF DEPARTURE TO EUROPE

5. Important information

  • The consular administration has full authority to evaluate and request more documents than those submitted by the applicant.
  • Please be aware that submitting the aforementioned documents does not guarantee the approval of the visa.
  • Please note that holders of visas are still subject to immigration control upon first entry into France. The visa itself does not grant the right to enter France.
