TV5Monde, a New Name
In the last 20 years, TV5 has become the world’s second largest television network, ahead of CNN International. Broadcast to 160 million households and 3 million hotel rooms, TV5 reaches 73 million viewers every week. Starting January 1, 2006, TV5 becomes TV5Monde, and TV5Monde USA announces new programs and new schedules.
TV5 USA will offer clear choices that work in the four time zones between New York and San Francisco.
The morning news. Five hours of morning news programs will air with programs such as Télématin, Radio Canada and RTBF newscasts, TV5 l’invité and live newscasts from TV5Monde, making morning news available accross the country.
Strong prime time. Every evening, TV5Monde USA will offer six consecutive hours of quality programming : major films (two per week), quality made-for-TV movies (twice a week), and signature variety and entertainment programs. Reruns of these programs will begin airing the following week.
Every weekday, a new program, "Le Monde de TV5" (working title). TV5Monde will offer new weekday programs reflecting its identity : open to all the countries of the world, combining culture end news, and incorporating the voices and accents from the five continents. This program includes one hour of reporting in live simulcast, of images of breaking news and chronicles of lifestyles and the arts.
The world of TV5 is also, naturally, the world of the French language and Francophonie. Bernard Cerquillini, a university professor from Louisiana, brings TV5 viewers the Mot du jour, its usage around the world and current status.
Children’s programming. For the younggest viewers, TV5 offers one hour of programming every weekday afternoon as well as 2 morning hours every Saturday and Sunday.
